  • Dark0 releases new ep on Rinse

The new EP finds the North-West London operator flaunting his talent for a killer melody as he brings the temperature way down across five tracks, a neat tangent to the tearjerking mode that instrumental grime has been dabbling in lately, but often without being grime at all – in short, it’s a Dark0 record that sounds more like Dark0 than it does any genre.

Coming after last year’s Sin and Fate EPs and a bundle of top drawer remixes, the release kicks off in a punchier mode on ‘Abrasion’ before sinking into those jewel-bright melodies Dark0 does so well (‘Fuschia’, with its r’n’b lead and deep bassline, is a particular highlight), and ending on the serene ‘The Past’, which you can hear below. There’s also a remix of ‘Abrasion’ from Software-signed producer Suicideyear.

The EP is out on June 15 via Rinse, and after that Dark0 plays Rinse at XOYO on June 26 with Evian Christ, Lotic and Visionist before jetting off to New York for a MOMA PS1 Warm-Up show on July 25.

  • Clark Releases Video for “To Live And Die In Grantham” from new “Flame Rave” EP

On the heels of his storming new Flame Rave EP on Warp, Clark has released the music video for EP track “To Live And Die In Grantham,” directed by Christopher Hewitt.

Of the new EP Clark says:

“I started making these ravey tunes to play out at gigs, but they gathered a momentum and gradually formed this E.P. I came back to it again and again – it seemed to work in clubs but also as a sneaky, immersive headphone listen. I love the feel of an almost overwhelming percussive violence being suddenly flooded with heartache and melody. I find that dynamic exhilarating. I really wanted this E.P. to capture that. I hope you enjoy listening to it!”

Clark is currently embarking on a world tour, with all standalone tour dates and festival appearances on the flyer below.

  • Chambray drops new EP on Ultramajic

Chambray’s sophomore record is set to launch in mid-February via Jimmy Edgar’s Ultramajic outpost. Work That, the Berlin-based producer’s follow-up to the Rub EP, stays true to the label’s signature style of staccato functionality. Rigid beats, lightning claps, and catchy vocal blips abound throughout the four-track on the digital-only release, as do flashes of ghetto house’s dogged vocals and dusty hi-hats. Chambray strikes a balance between rigorous, inflexible workouts and jewel-bright melodic elements with dreamy synth breakdowns on the title track and a clipped piano part on “Anew.“

  • Jimmy Edgar FABRICLIVE.79

    fl79-jimmy-edgar-packshot

FABRICLIVE.79 from Jimmy Edgar will be released on January 19th, including a stack of exclusive and unreleased material from the the man himself and Ultrmajic labelmates.

You can read the press release and check the tracklisting over at Fabric’s website.

Commencing with a nod to his hometown forebears, with Terrence Dixon and Patrice Scott contributing deep Detroit cuts to the opening minutes of the mix, we’re soon reveling in a slew of unreleased Ultramajic material from Crystal Bandito and Jimmy himself, including a typically no-nonsense collaboration with LA native Truncate and the snare-driven ‘Walk Show’ featuring the deeply-missed Chicago footwork icon DJ Rashad. It’s here that the many facets of Jimmy Edgar really shine through: DJ, producer, and label curator. The mix picks up an unmistakable strut, before momentarily taking a breath with Danny Daze’s deep house blending unexpectedly into the ghetto-tech of DJ Godfather & DJ Starski. A pair of unyielding Kris Wadsworth cuts sandwich another Jimmy Edgar exclusive in the mix’s final stretch, ensuring that, despite its author’s nomadism through the years, the music of Detroit runs like a seam through FABRICLIVE 79.

Jimmy Edgar launches FABRICLIVE 79 on Friday 6th February 2015, alongside Machinedrum, Kris Wadsworth, Chambray and more.

  • Vessels new single, plus album to be released in March

  • Hubie Davison releases new EP on Leisure System

Hubie Davison returns to Leisure System with his second release for the Berlin label.

The three-track Khayyam Grey EP has a dash of funk and soul in its blood, apparently drawing on Bill Withers and Otis Redding as much as the analogue-y house of Werkdiscs and Sound Signature, and features ‘Get On’, a riotous slab of peak-time psychedelia, which you can stream below.

The other two cuts are the title track, which the label says “takes cues from Daphni’s stand-up-and-shout, sample-heavy house”, and ‘Vowels’, which first appeared on the Leisure System compilation LSR-LSD1 and turns up here in extended and altered form.

Stream the luscious ‘Get On’ below.

  • Listen to the Chambray “Rub” remixes

Chambray’s Rub EP made the club go boom; the remixes of Chambray’s Rub EP will make the club go bang. On November 17, Ultramajic will liberate four souped-up reworks of the Berlin producer’s debut EP, which were helmed by Len Faki, Bodyjack, The Hacker, and DJ Haus. Each contributor adds a distinct flavor to the Berliner’s original productions. First up is French rave titan The Hacker, who twists “Ghetto Giants” into a slinky beat decked with pings, bleeps and a touch of sonic haze. Berghain mainstay Len Faki equips “Untitled” with a frog-marching techno kick, twittering percussion, and a breakdown so brooding you can practically taste the fog machine. In Bodyjack’s hands, the same track becomes a buoyant house tool with acid croaks and vocal yelps, while Unknown to the Unknown label boss DJ Haus brings dry Chicago percussion to the fore on his remix of “Rub,” which pits hypnotic stabs against a melody composed of acidic bass blobs.

  • Littlebig Welcomes Positive Centre / Debut LP on Our Circula Sound – out November 10th

After a pair of well-received EPs and a string of immersive live shows over the past year, Positive Centre prepares the release of his first long-player, entitled ‘In Silent Series’. Within this Album, Positive Centre offers a larger window into his unique take on techno. Submerged rhythm and shadow-drenched sonics combined with tunneling bass heft to create an at times unsettling blend of extreme momentum and forced introspection. The delicacy of his production help set him apart from the raft of techno producers currently mining the combination of a darker pallet and slower tempos, while the cohesiveness of the album and it’s structural narrative belie the fact that this is only the third official Positive Centre release. ‘In Silent Series’ confirms Positive Centre’s unique sound has emerged fully formed into the modern techno landscape.

‘In Silent Series’ will be released on Sigha’s Our Circula Sound label on November 10th.

    Tracklist
    01. No Need For Narration
    02. Ashes In Exhalation
    03. Out Was The Old In
    04. Handed By Symmetry
    05. Back To Steaming
    06. Become The Surface
    07. Stand Down Be Better
    08. The Circled Rib
    09. Old Father Sun Strider

Positive Centre is now available for Live & DJ Bookings for the rest of the year and throughout 2015.

  • Jimmy Edgar Announces New ‘Saline’ EP

Jimmy Edgar has announced the release of his next EP, Saline, out October 13th, 2014

Saline is the third installment in a series of records from Jimmy Edgar on Ultramajic. While the first part, Hot Inside, represented the element of fire, and its follow-up release, Mercurio, symbolized water, Saline is aligned with earth. It’s no accident that the name refers specifically to the earthly compound salt, as desalination is an integral metaphysical process that helps to hone the third eye.

The EP rises from the ashes of Hot Inside and Mercurio with “Burn,” a blazing acid-tinged banger that boats dry drums and a strangled wail. The reference to fire in the title suggests the evolution of Edgar’s series of singles, while the name of the track “Decalcify” invokes a process closely related to desalination, as both play a role in making the body more attuned to supernatural experiences. Ultramajic’s Chicago house influence enticed legendary footwork producer DJ Rashad, who’s voice can be heard in the sampled squawk on metallic tune “Walk Show.” The final track “Who’s Watchin,” features Jimmy’s own vocal, coy bleep-bloop instrumentation and hissing hi-hats. Taken as a whole, Saline and the other releases in Jimmy’s series of dance singles are designed to instigate the processes they allude to and aid in the path of spiritual development.

  • Objekt announces debut album for PAN

Excited to announce the release of Objekt’s debut album on PAN, Flatland. Written between 2012 and 2014, Flatland follows up a succession of dynamic single releases from his base in Berlin, including the recent split 12” with Dopplereffekt on Leisure System, Cactus b/w Porcupine on Hessle Audio and three 12” singles on his eponymous white label series. His recorded work so far has toyed with techno and electro conventions and has turned dancefloor tropes on theirhead, tickling the boundaries of what can or can’t constitute an effective club record.
