Switch Angel

Switch Angel is an electronic musician, live coder, and developer, and performer. Her practice centres on creating electronic music live through code, combining programming, mathematics, improvisation, vocals, and real-time narration in euphoric high-energy performances, captivating crowds and stages around the world. 

As an artist, she is captivated by media that presents self actualization through transformation (examples: Ghost in the Shell, Serial Experiments Lain). Her work is also heavily inspired in niche internet communities, where she spends time honing her practice in virtual reality. As a reaction to current themes in computation being presented as a means of mass control and manipulation, her work presents a power fantasy where she commands technology with effortless virtuosity to create beautiful things.

Her reactive style of live composition is enabled through her close development of the tools she uses to perform.  She invents her own algorithmic music theory that allows her to achieve a flow state using the computer as an instrument. Similar to the way an artist can effortlessly connect to the physical world through the vibration and manipulation of tuned strings, she realized a computer could allow her to achieve a similar state using its core design function: the manipulation and composition of language.

Switch Angel released her debut album in 2024, and has recently been producing a series of live music-coding videos from scratch, as well as a steady stream of singles and collaborations, sharing the creative possibilities of live coding with a growing online audience.

Switch Angel has been performing electronic music in various forms since childhood. She discovered making electronic music on a tracker for her hacked PSP. Her first album [under a previous project: Jade Rose]: Moonstone, was an experimental work created in Kansas in 2017 using DIY electronics, a modular synthesizer at her local library, and an old cassette player. She later took a detour from electronic music to study lutherie and acoustic guitar building, further shaping her relationship with instruments, technology, and sound.

Today, Switch Angel is closely involved in the emerging live-coding and club-code scene, a collaborative community built around experimentation, open-source tools, and the exchange of ideas. This culture of openness and shared knowledge is central to her practice and to her interest in developing new approaches to electronic music and performance.
