Switch Angel

Jade Rose is an electronic musician, live coder, and developer performing under the name Switch Angel. Her practice centres on creating electronic music live through code, combining programming, mathematics, improvisation, vocals, and real-time narration in high-energy performances. She released her debut Switch Angel album last year and has recently been producing a series of live music-coding videos from scratch, sharing the creative possibilities of live coding with a growing online audience.

Rose has been performing electronic music in various forms since childhood. She began making music on a tracker for a hacked PSP, later working with Psycle Tracker and FL Studio. Her first album, Moonstone, was an experimental work created in Kansas in 2017 using DIY electronics, a modular synthesizer at her local library, and an old cassette player. She later took a detour from electronic music to study lutherie and acoustic guitar building, further shaping her relationship with instruments, technology, and sound.

Today, Rose is closely involved in the emerging live-coding and club-code scene, a collaborative community built around experimentation, open-source tools, and the exchange of ideas. She regularly collaborates and performs alongside artists including DJ DAVE, LO FI SCI FI, CJ CARR, CHAR STILES, and PEPPIN. This culture of openness and shared knowledge is central to her practice and to her interest in developing new approaches to electronic music and performance.

Much of Rose’s current work is created using Strudel, a community-driven live-coding environment based on the Haskell music framework TidalCycles, originally initiated by Alex McLean and Felix Roos. Over the past several years, Rose has become an active contributor to the project, helping maintain, develop, and shape Strudel as an expressive and approachable environment for music-making. Her work as both an artist and developer explores the boundaries between composition, performance, programming, and instrument design.
