Stream lead single of Aisha Devi’s July 24 ‘Conscious Cunt’ EP on Houndstooth
Aïsha Devi joins Fabric’s Houndstooth label with her ‘Conscious Cunt’ EP out on July 24. The 3 track EP explores different perspectives on womanhood and the dichotomy between materialistic femininity under societal pressure and spirituality. In her own words:
It’s an EP about sluts, awareness, death, and women in a patriarchal society… enlightenment, violence, resistance, mothers, daughters, consciousness, Guy Debord, Vedas and eternity. It’s also a high-five to my grandmother who raised me and passed away early this year.
Lead track ‘Kim & The Wheel of Life’ is a whirling melodic vortex of echoing synths underlaid by deep rumbling kicks and melancholic undertones before morphing into a vocal-centric piece. Aisha says: It’s a cynical comment – societal emptiness vs dharma & eternity… or the complete fail of modern feminine icons, empowered but still complying to patriarchal and capitalist codes.
Devi’s debut album described as a ‘materialisation of her initiatic journey through her spiritual and origin quests’ is due later this year and is sure to make waves. Preview and pre-order the EP via Houndstooth.

LittleBig welcomes Xeno & Oaklander
Littlebig are happy to welcome Xeno & Oaklander to the family. The analogue synth and electronics duo of Liz Wendelbo and Sean McBride based in Brooklyn, NY first rose to notoriety as part of the Weird Records nights in NYC, releasing 4 albums on the label since 2006 and sparking a minimal synth / coldwave resurgence excitedly covered in the press from 2009 onwards. On June 24, 2014, the duo made their Ghostly International debut with the album ‘Par Avion’, which showcased their ability to pair McBride’s classic 80’s machine melodies and shoegazey washes with timeless chanteuse vocal hooks, sung in both English and French by Wendelbo. After a big EU tour last Autumn, they are now in the studio working on the next synth opus. Check out this recent interview from AdHoc and stream the full album via Dazed Digital.

Samuel Kerridge’s ‘Always Offended Never Ashamed’ out now! FACT full stream + reviews.
The sophomore LP ‘Always Offended Never Ashamed’ from Downwards veteran Samuel Kerridge dropped fittingly this past Friday the 13th with full force on his new CONTORT label. FACT premiered a full stream of the LP (below) and likened him to SUNN O))) and Ike Yard, saying of the record: Kerridge took his murky brand of techno into ever more outlandish places, melding monolithic drone and sluggish tempos into music that could easily soundtrack the collapse of civilisation.
Plenty of others have chimed in with praise including …
The Quietus: It seems that every sound, every nuance, has been the product of exhaustive manual labour – sonic sculpture with a pickaxe.
Resident Advisor (4.2/5): … a work that brilliantly manifests the pressure of 21st century urban living, albeit through music that, for all its electronic origin, sounds raw, elemental, even ancient.
The Ransom Note: …virulent and miasmic, with emittances of stygian belch and guttural pulse establishing a punishing but drawn-out and suspenseful atmosphere, like a form of long-take terror.
… plus Spex, Hartzine, and Soundwall, VICE Italia just to name a few.
To celebrate the record release Kerridge will performing live in Tresor on February 28 as part of Atonal’s New Codes series along with his signature CONTORT event on Sunday, March 1 at OHM with an encore back to back DJ set with Shapednoise and many special guests. Full details here and here.
Upcoming shows with many more headline and festival dates TBA very soon:
February 28 – New Codes at Tresor, Berlin DE
March 13 – Bloc at Butlins, Minehead UK
March 27 – Transbo, Lyon FR
March 28 – Golden Cabinet at Kirkgate Centre, Shipley UK

Mondkopf’s debut LP ‘I’ as Extreme Precautions out today!
Today Paul Régimbeau a.k.a. Mondkopf has released his second LP this year, this time in the brand new guise of Extreme Precautions. Taking grindcore inspired electronics with the synths from a suspenseful horror thriller, the compositions on I are short, visceral, and hit you straight in the gut. The Guardian likens it to: “military-industrial might of Dominic Fernow’s various projects, the seething mood swings of Alec Empire, and the dancefloor malevolence of Laurent Garnier’s Sound of the Big Babou” while FACT proclaim that Régimbeau is,”… grubbing up the rust-clad spirit of the Birmingham-birthed grindcore sound and giving it a fresh lick of electronic paint”. Grab it from In Paradisum while it’s still in stock.

Holly Herndon’s “NSA break-up song” + Metahaven video ‘Home’
The second, and equally revelatory single, ‘Home’ from Holly Herndon this year leading up to her imminent sophomore LP in 2015 takes the form of a break up ode to the NSA. A deadpan portrait amidst a shower of NSA icons, Herndon showcases her increasingly poppy intertwining vocal melodies with an ever-expanding avant-garde production palette. After a string of singles and remixes for Perc Trax in 2013, Mondkopf, a.k.a Paris via Toulouse’s industrial techno wünderkind, Paul Régimbeau, has just dropped his heaviest and most expansive release to date, “Hadès” on his own In Paradisum. Building on Régimbeau’s passion to bring the crushing weight of metal into the dance music stratosphere, and alongside contemporaries who he’s hosted at his In Paradisum nights in Paris including Oneohtrix Point Never, Perc, Sandwell District and Demdike Stare, “Hadès” is testament to forward-thinking non-conformity in electronic music today.
