Musician and technologist Tim Exile is kicking off his new live performance project with a tour of intimate UK venues where he’ll showcase his new self-made instrument and announce exciting news about the project.

Performance is almost always a footnote to composition in the electronic music world and Tim has been working for the last 15 years to turn this on its head by creating his own bespoke instruments for electronic performance. The latest milestone in his quest to combine the fluidity and spontaneity of traditional acoustic instruments with the infinite sound worlds of synthesis and sampling is an instrument deep enough to write and perform an entire album. Join him to experience the results and hear him share his journey with the project.

Tim’s had an impressive career. As a musician he’s released critically acclaimed albums on seminal electronic record labels Planet Mu and Warp and performed live in every continent. With his technologist hat on he’s released 3 plugin instrument and FX in collaboration with music tech giants Native Instruments. For the last 5 years Tim has been focussed on developing his Flow Machine instrument which forms the centre of his visceral 100% improvised live performances.

Join Tim at one of these dates and watch out for a special announcement nearer the time with some exciting news about the instrument, the project and its future.

  • Resident Advisor Mix of the Day: Tim Exile

“This was recorded at a show I did at a festival called Riddim Collision in Lyon in September 2013. As always in the last few years it was completely improvised using the instrument I developed myself which I’ve been playing since 2008. It’s a studio-in-a-box centred around a looper, tied together with some workflow magic allowing me to wander freely: Making, looping, processing, resampling, chopping and so on. All the audio happens on the laptop inside the ensemble running in Reaktor… no analog modular I’m afraid… and it’s controlled by a flightcase full of MIDI controllers.” – Tim Exile

  • Tim Exile Announces First Release in Four Years on Leisure System

It’s been four years since Tim Exile’s last release, but the analog warrior never stopped his ferociously futuristic experimentation, whether collaborating with evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, improvising presentations at TED Global 2013, or performing as Mostly Robot with Jamie Lidell. Tim has become more relaxed about music these days following releases on Warp and Planet Mu, diving deep into refined techno without sacrificing fun. Exile’s new EP on Leisure System gathers three stunning improvised instrumental club bangers from the churning assembly line of his mind, prickly synth adventures with all the glorious bombast expected from dueling intergalactic battleships. The Harmuni EP represents a new chapter for Tim Exile as he returns to his club roots. Nobody is safe. Grab your subwoofer and pray.
