  • Squarepusher ‘Ufabulum’ out now on Warp + astonishing new live show!

“I’ve started thinking about pure electronic music again. Something very melodic, very aggressive”.

Squarepusher’s new album ‘Ufabulum’ was released May 14/15 on Warp and he has been performing his brand new live A/V overload show at festivals this Summer + headline tour in Sept/Oct.

Squarepusher on the track ‘Dark Steering’:
“For a while I had apocalyptic nightmares about trails of nuclear missiles in the night sky. So I aimed to recreate that strange combination of exhilaration, terror and sadness both visually and emotionally through this piece. It lead to the idea of a spacecraft leaving earth at vast speed to escape, but oddly the music also made me think of it flying through a library. So I generated the visual aspect such that, as the piece progresses, it seems as if the viewer is ever accelerating through massive corridors of books.”

Check the video trailer for a peek at his brain-melting new music and immersive LED video live set-up.

  • Jimmy Edgar Sex Drive Single + Majenta world tour!

Futuristic-funk starchild, Jimmy Edgar, returns with the third single to be taken from his recent album, Majenta, out earlier this year on Hotflush. This time Edgar shoves his free-spirited sexual appetite in your face, with a slice of stripped-down, upfront electro-funk complete with J.G. Ballard-inspired lyrics of car-crash sexual fetishism.

Alongside the original album cut, two alternate takes are reworked by a pair of producers at the very top of their game: Jon Convex and John Talabot. Check it >>

Jimmy is hitting the road hard this Autumn so be sure not to miss his white hot live show and DJ sets!

  • CLARK – Iradelphic Sessions + ‘Fantasm Planes’ EP

That material will be followed up this September 3/4 with the ‘Fantasm Planes’ EP, featuring 3 reworks of key tracks from ‘Iradelphic’, as heard in his recent live shows, and 3 brand new tracks.

  • Jacques Greene ‘Ready’ EP out now, announced as The Warehouse Project resident, touring this Fall

Jacques Greene keeps it coming with his second EP this year, ‘Ready’, on Martyn’s label 3024. Already garnering “Best New Music” on Pitchfork, check it out here.

From 3024’s press release: Lead track ‘Ready’ made it’s debut on Martyn’s Essential mix earlier in the year and the ensuing months of low res Youtube play have failed to tarnish what begins supremely understated. Shuffling breaks and aquatic subs support staggered wood blocks before a serrated ascending acid line helps the arrangement flare into a storming 4×4 pattern, sporadically lit up by that increasingly frayed acid melody until caving in on itself and rattling off into the distance. By contrast ‘Prism’ makes it’s true intentions clear immediately, a metronomic pulse in place as soon as the track opens, quickly joined by enveloping Energy Flash plates of bass and signalling the tracks arrival proper. A wisp of night flight melody snakes it’s way over the surface, partnered with a secondary hook’s wordless androgyny and what was monolithic bass shifts up into an altogether more limber pattern as a competing vocal presence and gemstone arpeggio combine before leaving hissing percussion and the ever present kick in a cloud of steam. Closing track ‘Dakou’ is perhaps closest to the sound that Greene has become known for. Stacked with treated vocal loops and keening synths, a reprise of ‘Ready’s driving but organic drum programming powers the track thought with a finely balanced momentum as a deceptively simple melody weaves between the spaces left by the choir of loops. Just as things settle into a seemingly pleasant groove a supremely ragged acid line breaks the rhythmic mill pond, billowing, swelling and circling the track and becoming more over driven by the bar, before finally flickering out of view for a coda of of chiming synth pads, clockwork breaks and ambient workshop atmospherics.

Additionally Jacques has been picked as one of this year’s Residents, among other high profile producers, at The Warehouse Project in Manchester. Following up the success of his Summer tour, expect to see him back DJing across the UK and Europe this Fall.

  • Oneohtrix Point Never debuts new collaboration with Nate Boyce, RELIQUARY HOUSE

On December 17, 2011 PopRally premiered the multimedia performance RELIQUARY HOUSE by Oneohtrix Point Never and visual artist Nate Boyce, created specifically for The Museum of Modern Art.

OPN and Boyce re-imagine the canon of modernist sculpture through hallucinatory reconstructions of works by David Smith, Jacob Epstein, and Anthony Caro, among other sculptures in MoMA’s collection. Boyce uses computer-generated imagery to transform these sculptures into kinetic apparitions that inhabit incongruous and “impossible” landscapes and architectural environments. Abetted by OPN’s sound design, Boyce reconfigures the museum setting, pulling historical art objects into a new context.

This Fall, OPN and Boyce will bring RELIQUARY HOUSE to the UK/Europe for select dates.

    Contact ned@littlebig.org.uk for booking info.

While you’re at it, check out the soundtrack he made for MEET YOUR CREATOR. Daniel composed music for a troupe of 16 quadrotors (flying robots) to dance to and manipulate sound and light at the Saacthi & Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase 2012. Watch here.

Ihre Musik beschrieb der NME ganz treffend als »Post-Industrial, but it moves beyond that. This is post-apocalyptic, the soundtrack of an underworld-disco«.

Krass.
