96 Back

There are few artists working in contemporary electronic music that have covered as much musical ground, and as quickly, as 96 Back. Since breaking through as a teenager in the late 2010s, Evan Majumdar-Swift has displayed remarkable genre fluidity and sonic evolution, touching upon electro, techno, hyperpop, IDM, hypnagogic pop, house, ambient, experimental and just about everything else in between. From Sheffield, now based in London via a stint in Manchester, he has released 12”s, EPs and LPs on labels such as Local Action, including a trilogy of albums in just 12 months, as well as on CPU, Hypercolour and SVBKVLT. Such rapid progress and versatility is reflected in his potent live shows too, which sit as genuinely unique offerings in modern dance music settings. Not only is he a hugely skilled and eclectic DJ but his live sets are elevated to another level with Majumdar-Swift utilising a microphone, existing in a kind of middle ground between MC, singer and compere. Such unique shows create party environments that can vary from the intimate to the intense and visceral and such performances have seen him in demand all over the world, playing everywhere from LA to China.
