Tropic of Cancer is the solo project of Camella Lobo. Her extraordinarily atmospheric and emotive music betrays influences from dream-pop, minimal synth and psychedelia.
Tropic of Cancer has released on influential labels such as Downwards and Mannequin, before the arrival of her debut album, Restless Idylls (2013), mixed by Karl O’Connor (Regis), and released on Blackest Ever Black to considerable acclaim.
There will be a new wave of activity from Tropic of Cancer in 2015. Lobo will be taking the project on tour in Autumn/Winter, and for the first time they will perform as a trio – with Dva Damas’s Taylor Burch on guitar and Josh Eustis on keyboards/electronics. In Summer Blackest Ever Black will be reissuing the three original songs from Tropic of Cancer’s early Downwards 10”s on one 12” EP – part of the label’s fifth anniversary celebrations. Lobo has also contributed her first new song since Restless Idylls, the ravishing ’I Woke Up And The Storm Was Over’, to the BEB compilation I Can’t Give You The Life You Want (out June), with plans for a brand new Tropic of Cancer EP before the year is out.
