Biography

múm was formed in 1997 and has for almost two decades been a staple in the Icelandic experimental and electronic music community. The band was originally formed as a duo but has expanded and decreased a number of times and taken endless forms and shapes over their existence. The band’s seventh studio album is due to be released in 2016, but múm has always been known for their diverse projects, collaborations, theatre and film music. Among recent collaborators are diverse figures such as Kylie Minouge, German pianist and composer Hauschka and the MDR Sinfonieorchester in Leipzig who commissioned the piece Drowning in 2015. múm’s most recent extracurricular project is a semi-improvised electronic music score to the silent masterpiece Menschen am Sonntag (1930), sculpted through a series of monthly events at local art gallery Mengi with the aim ultimately to write a new score to the film.
